Bacon Maple & Walnut Coffee Cake Recipe

Who can resist the irresistible allure of bacon and maple syrup combined in a coffee cake, creating a delightful blend of sweet and savory flavors?


This coffee cake is soft and delicate. The combination of bacon and nuts in the crumbly topping complements the tastes of maple, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Delicious!

As I began preparing the coffee cake, I intended to have just a small bite and let the family savor the rest. However, upon tasting it, that initial nibble quickly evolved into a whole slice because I found it so delightful.


Bacon Maple & Walnut Coffee Cake Recipe


Ingredients:


  • 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/3 cup cold butter

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 heaping teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 heaping teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 2 large eggs, room temperature

  • 1-1/2 cups buttermilk

  • 3/4 cup natural maple syrup

  • 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce

  • 10 Maple flavored bacon strips, cooked and crumbled

  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Directions:


  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly. Set aside 1/2 cup for topping.

  2. Combine the baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg; stir into remaining flour mixture.

  3. In a small bowl, whisk the eggs, buttermilk, syrup and applesauce until well blended. Gradually stir into flour mixture until combined.

  4. Spread into a 13x9-in. baking pan coated with cooking spray. Sprinkle with reserved topping, then bacon and walnuts. Bake at 350° until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 35-40 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
